Readers' limericks II

Hello, readers!

I find myself invited to a wedding. Between you and me, the couple seem rather ill-matched, although they do share an interest in sailing and have a boat of a very fetching colour. I shan't be away for a year and a day, but you might find a week's gap in my posting.

In the meantime, allow me to share some of the best limericks from the comments in the last few months, in this slightly overdue second installment of Readers' limericks. This time we have four from Ann Apolis and two from Shadowphiar, fine limericks all.

Comic 893 - 65 Years, by Ann Apolis

I'll tell you what fills me with sorrow
(so join, if you will, in my wallow:)
It'll be pretty soon
None alive walked the Moon
Though it's forty-two years post Apollo

Comic 896 - Marie Curie, by Ann Apolis

In science, the thing that most vexes
Is drama surrounding our sexes.
'All women are Curieous'
- it drives me quite furious!
There's more to their work than two Xs.

Comic 676 - Abstraction, by Shadowphiar

It takes three or four billion clocks
to run YouTube on Flash on Firefox.
How does it devour
all this processing power
just to watch a few cats in a box?

Comic 562 - Parking, by Shadowphiar

When I asked why my friend had an arc
welder on the back seat of his Merc,
he replied "It's a laugh
to cut cars in half
if they've taken two spaces to park"

Comic 906 - Advertising Discovery, by Ann Apolis

This may look like spam but it's true
It's proven by science [1][2]
You know it's no lie
cause it's succeeded by
Square-bracketed numbers in blue

Comic 928 - Mimic Octopus, by Ann Apolis

A very ingenious octopus
Has talent to mimic or mocktopus -
"Is this fish? Oh my God!"
"It's a cephalopod!"
(It causes considerable shocktopus!)

Well done once again, and do keep the limericks coming.

Comic 924 - 3D Printer

Try as I might, I can't top XKCD reader Ann Apolis's excellent limerick for this one. It's simply unbeatable. So, here it is, reproduced from the comments to the last post but two.

It never, alas, takes that long
For technology use to go wrong.
The power to print
Will be just used to mint
A sixteen-inch Bakelite dong.

Original comic here.

Readers' limericks I

Of course I like reading all your kind comments on this site, but the best ones are when readers post limericks of their own. So what better way to celebrate my hundredth post than to bring six of the best up above the comment line for the first time?

First, three limericks inspired by XKCDs that I haven't covered yet:

Comic 123 - Centrifugal Force, by Shadowphiar

Do you really expect me to try
to substitute terms on the fly
finding force as you claim
in a rotating frame?
"No, Bond, I expect you to die."

Comic 764 - One Two, by Emily

Sesame Street would be crazy,
Done by primitive folks who are hazy
On numbers. Count: "One!"
With "Two! Many!" he's done.
Zing! Anthropology students are lazy!

Comic 631 - Anatomy Text, by Ann Apolis

Why can't we just have a nice meal?
But no, over there - yes, it's real
Meg and Randy, both nude
Snapping film through their food
...I don't want to know where he stored that reel.

And now three excellent alternate limericks to my posts, all by regular friend of the site Ann Apolis:

Comic 724 - Hell

In Hades I watch every block
Fall down just like Sisyphus' rock.
Should this drive me beserk?
Well, it surely won't work -
...the floor's semicircular. Cock.

Comic 867 - Herpetology

There was a young birdist of Shimla
Said "Lizards and newts may look sim'lar
But they're actually not -
Herpetology's rot"
Said the herpists "You're worse than Herr Himmler!"

Comic 149 - Sandwich

A sandwich or sanger or sarnie
Is yours if you've got the right blarney
Just treat some a-hole
Like a Linux console
(bug: won't work for a lamb biriani)

Well done, everybody, and keep the limericks coming.
